Jars and Bottles' inaugural 'Design Awards' comes to a climax.

Jars and Bottles, a UK glass jars and bottles manufacturer and wholesaler,  recently launched its inaugural Design Awards, presenting an exciting challenge to creatively design a practical glass container for use within the food and drink industry. This competition was designed to inspire and showcase innovative designs that could potentially reshape the way glass jars and bottles are produced, offering solutions to the ever-evolving market demands.

To bring this vision to life, Pattesons teamed up with the Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education. The partnership aimed to transform the dreams and aspirations of local designers into tangible career opportunities. The competition not only provided real-world work experience but also offered the chance for winning designs to become distinctive products within the industry. Designers were encouraged to rethink traditional glass container designs, pushing the boundaries of creativity and functionality.

Throughout the contest, Pattesons worked closely with students and tutors from the initial briefing right through to the final concept presentations. This ongoing support was crucial in helping the designers refine their ideas and giving them the best possible chance to succeed in the market.

The biennial design contest spans 11 months and is divided into three main phases: design, modification, and submission. Once the designs were completed, they were evaluated by a panel of leading industry experts who meticulously reviewed each entry. After a rigorous selection process, three designs were chosen to advance to the awards ceremony, where all entries and finalists were celebrated, and the winners were honoured with prizes and certificates.

Winners and Runners-up:

This year’s winning design was created by Joseph McGovern, whose innovative "Jigsaw Jar" captured the essence of the competition by addressing a significant challenge in retail.

“Joseph’s project demonstrated a clear and well-executed design. The Jigsaw Jar, appropriately named, offers a solution that works well across various sectors, including cosmetics, perfume, and food. What truly excites me is its potential to stand out on shelves, offering our customers a unique point of difference,” said Sam Graves, Jars and Bottles Marketing Manager.
